The Committee The Original Austin Chapter’s Black History Program
(AUSTIN, TX) Sunday, February 23rd, The Committee The Original Austin Chapter (TCTOAC) will celebrate Black History Month by showcasing:
"African Americans and Labor: Railroads to Robots."
The Committee's purpose is to mentor and support youth by providing academic scholarships to deserving, graduating seniors in the surrounding communities. The Committee also inspires and mentors minority- owned businesses via event recognition; social media; business card exchanges; and seminars. Through its annual "All White Affaire Scholarship Fundraiser." The Committee has awarded nearly $40,000.00 in scholarships, and distributed hundreds of backpacks filled with school supplies to support teachers and students. In an effort to help eradicate food insecurity, The Committee made a long-term commitment to the Central Texas Food Bank with a monthly recurring financial donation.
Additionally, The Committee supports Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated; Freedom Home Missionary Baptist Church; Roger Hughes' Lodge #624 Youth Program; CHEOPS Temple #200 -Toys for Tots; Arabic Order Noble Mystic Shrine Youth Organization.
This year's celebration will honor three (3) Austin Legends: Aaron Demerson, President & Chief Executive Officer, Texas Economic Development Corporation; Stacy Rhone; Chief Executive Officer, BigAUSTIN; and Quita Culpepper, Anchor, KVUE Austin. These individuals have demonstrated a long-term commitment to economic development, jobs creation, entrepreneurship, as well as has reported on our everyday quest to build a better quality of life.
The afternoon will be filled with music, dance and poetry. Special performers include: Spirit of the Drum; Imani Aanu; Levi Randolph; G Garlow; the amazing Buffalo Soldiers with their traveling museum; and the award-winning Manor New Tech High School Robotics Team.
A dessert reception will conclude the celebration.
The celebration is FREE to the public.
The Committee is a non-profit, 501 (c) 3 organization.
